GLM-5V-Turbo is Z.ai's native multimodal model, released April 1, 2026 and architected to treat visual understanding as a first-class input alongside text, video, and file attachments. It builds on the GLM-5 architecture (744 billion parameters, around 40 billion active), supports a 200,000-token context window with up to 128,000-token output, and uses a custom vision encoder called CogViT for multimodal agentic reasoning. The model is tuned for design-to-code generation, converting design mockups and screenshots into working front-end code. On Z.ai's reported Design2Code benchmark it scores 94.8 against Claude Opus 4.6's 77.3, and it is built to explore and recreate user interfaces from visual analysis, spotting rendering issues and proposing fixes from screenshots. GLM-5V-Turbo keeps the agentic strengths of GLM-5-Turbo, including thinking modes, tool calling, structured output, context caching, and MCP integration, while adding visual processing for GUI automation and agentic browsing tasks. Its training spans multimodal and visual-reasoning data, letting it handle complex layouts, diagrams, and design systems without losing text-coding ability. Aimed at teams building vision-grounded agentic systems, it bridges visual perception and code generation for front-end development, UI testing, and autonomous web interaction alongside text-based reasoning.
