LiteLLM alternative

The LiteLLM alternative — managed, observable, EU-ready

Same unified API across 300+ models, same drop-in OpenAI compatibility — without self-hosting a proxy, bolting on Helicone for logs, or writing your own budget service. Tracing, evals, and EU regions included.

Zero infra to run

No proxy, no Postgres, no Redis. Patches and CVEs on us — same OpenAI client, none of the ops.

All-in-one platform

Tracing, evals, and budgets in one gateway — no Helicone, Langfuse, or custom budget service to wire up.

Managed EU residency

Run on AWS Bedrock Frankfurt, Azure EU, or Berget AI — no EU proxy infra to deploy yourself.

Why teams switch

Why teams move from LiteLLM to Opper

LiteLLM is the most widely adopted open-source LLM gateway, and for good reason. But running it in production is a platform-team job — and observability, evals, EU residency, and security perimeter are still separate problems to solve.

Self-hosting is infra you don't want

Running LiteLLM in production means a Docker container, a Postgres, a Redis, a config.yaml, monitoring, patches, and on-call — plus owning the security perimeter, from CVE response to supply-chain risk. The widely-reported March 2026 LiteLLM PyPI compromise is a recent reminder that self-hosted OSS proxies inherit dependencies they can't always see.

Observability is a separate stack

LiteLLM is excellent at forwarding traces to Langfuse, Helicone, Datadog, and OpenTelemetry — but the trace UI, evals, and dataset evaluation live in those tools, not the proxy. That's another contract, another integration, another thing to keep healthy.

EU residency is on you

The LiteLLM team doesn't operate a managed EU offering. Self-hosting in EU regions means deploying proxy infra in EU clouds, contracting EU upstream providers, and writing the DPAs yourself. Managed EU residency is faster and contractually cleaner for teams who don't want to be in the infra business.

It's a proxy, not an agent platform

LiteLLM routes calls — and does it well. Opper routes calls and gives you an Agent SDK, Agent CLI, AI Wallet, and a control plane to ship multi-tenant agents — without bolting another five tools onto the proxy.

The Opper Way

What Opper gives you that LiteLLM doesn't

A managed gateway with the production primitives baked in — not assembled.

Managed gateway — no proxy, no security perimeter

No container to deploy, no Postgres or Redis to operate, no config.yaml to maintain. And no CVE feed to monitor, no supply-chain compromises to triage at 2am. When you self-host an LLM proxy, you inherit the entire security perimeter — incident response included. With Opper, that's our problem.

  • Zero infrastructure to operate
  • Patches, CVEs, and incident response on us
  • Enterprise SLA available on managed plans
Self-hosted LiteLLM
  • · Deploy proxy container
  • · Configure config.yaml
  • · Wire up Postgres + Redis
  • · Add Helicone for traces
  • · Add Langfuse for evals
  • · Patch + monitor uptime
Opper (managed)
  • One API key
  • Tracing built in
  • Evals built in
  • EU regions, no infra
  • Patches and CVEs on us

One platform — not Helicone + Langfuse + Datadog

Tracing, evals, audit logs, budget caps, and PII filters all live in Opper — not in five separate vendors. One contract, one dashboard, one place to debug an agent run from request to response.

  • Native span-level tracing
  • Auto-scoring and dataset evals
  • Searchable, exportable audit logs

Managed EU data residency

Run the same Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and Mistral models on EU infrastructure — AWS Bedrock Frankfurt, Azure EU, Berget AI — without standing up your own EU proxy infra. GDPR DPAs and subprocessor chain handled.

  • GDPR-compliant subprocessor chain

Same OpenAI SDK, change one line

Drop-in compatible with the OpenAI client. Point base_url at Opper, use any of 300+ models from any provider, and keep your existing code, prompts, and tooling. The same compatibility LiteLLM gives you, without the proxy.

  • 300+ models
  • Zero rewrites
  • Automatic fallbacks

Agent platform, not just a router

Opper is more than a gateway. The Agent SDK, Agent CLI, and AI Wallet turn the same unified API into a complete platform for building, shipping, and monetizing production agents — not a proxy you'd still need to wrap.

  • Agent CLI for Claude Code, OpenCode, Codex
  • User-funded inference via AI Wallet
