GPT Audio 1.5 is OpenAI's audio model for the Chat Completions API, released February 23, 2026, and its named replacement for the earlier gpt-audio and gpt-audio-mini models. It takes text and audio input and can answer in text, in speech with a transcript, or both, inside an ordinary request and response rather than a live session. It accepts audio parts in the conversation, so it can listen to a recording and answer about it, and with modalities set to text and audio it speaks its reply in a chosen voice. It supports tool calling and a 128,000-token context with up to 16,384 output tokens. Each request must carry audio in or ask for audio out; a text-only exchange is refused by OpenAI. It fits voice features that work turn by turn, such as spoken answers in an app, voice notes that get a spoken reply, and audio question answering, where a realtime session would be more than the task needs.
