Nova Lite is Amazon's low-cost multimodal model designed for document analysis, visual question answering, and video understanding. It processes text, image, and video inputs with a 300K token context window, making it well suited to tasks that require image or video comprehension on a budget. Unlike Nova Micro's text-only specialization, Lite adds vision and video to handle complex multi-turn interactions, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) workflows, and agentic applications that combine language and visual understanding. The model natively handles documents, charts, images, and up to 30 minutes of video content in a single request. Nova Lite supports prompt caching and function calling for reliable tool use in automation workflows. Like the rest of the Nova family, it understands and generates content in over 200 languages, with strong performance across major global languages including English, German, Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese. Launched in December 2024, Nova Lite sits between the ultra-fast Micro model and the more capable Pro model, offering developers a balanced choice for multimodal tasks that do not require the highest reasoning complexity.
