It handles chat, summarization, classification, and simple coding tasks, and supports function calling and structured outputs for application integration. The model carries a context window of roughly 16,000 tokens, enough for moderate-length conversations and documents. It established the conversational pattern that later OpenAI models built on. GPT-3.5 Turbo is now considered legacy, with OpenAI steering new work toward newer, more capable, multimodal models. It remains a reasonable choice for high-volume, latency-sensitive tasks where deep reasoning is not required.
