GPT Image 2.6 Sunburst is the detail-focused model in OpenAI's GPT Image 2.6 generation, released November 4, 2026, alongside the faster Flare. OpenAI positions it for detailed compositions and image editing workflows where consistency across edits matters. Sunburst takes text and image inputs and outputs images, with inpainting, quality levels from low to max and sizes up to 3840 pixels per edge. GPT Image 2.6 adds a complexity setting (low, medium or high) that trades planning for speed, markup-guided edits that mark the area to change on an annotation layer, and animated GIF output with a chosen frame count and frame duration. It fits production creative work such as campaign assets, product imagery and dense layouts with text, where fidelity matters more than turnaround. At low and medium quality it uses more output tokens per image than GPT Image 2.5.
