GPT Image 2.6 Flare is one of two models in OpenAI's GPT Image 2.6 generation, released November 4, 2026, alongside Sunburst. OpenAI positions Flare for fast iteration in interactive generation and editing, and Sunburst for detailed visual work. Flare takes text and image inputs and outputs images, covering generation, editing and inpainting at quality levels from low to max and sizes up to 3840 pixels per edge. New in 2.6 are a complexity setting (low, medium or high) that controls how much the model plans before rendering, markup-guided edits that mark the area to change on an annotation layer, and animated GIF output with a chosen frame count and frame duration. It suits high-volume and latency-sensitive work such as in-app generation, social visuals, short looping animations and rapid prototyping. At the same quality setting it uses more output tokens than GPT Image 2.5 at low and medium quality, so per-image cost is higher there.
