Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, marketed as Nano Banana 2, reached preview on February 26, 2026 and general availability on May 28, 2026 as the faster, lighter sibling of Gemini 3 Pro Image. It generates and edits images from text, image, video, and PDF input within a 131,072 token context and returns both images and text, and Google rolled it out across the Gemini app and other Google products at launch. The model renders at 0.5K, 1K, 2K, and 4K, supports a wide set of aspect ratios including 1:4, 4:1, 1:8, and 8:1, and keeps up to five characters, and the objects around them, consistent within a single workflow. It renders legible text with control over font, style, and size, can ground generations in web search results for real-world subjects, and offers an optional thinking mode. Every image carries a SynthID watermark. Gemini 3.1 Flash Image suits product mockups, marketing assets, localization of text inside images, and iterative conversational editing at volume. Long text runs and most non-Latin scripts remain a weak spot, as they are for most image models.
