Swiss AI Initiative
Maker of the fully open Apertus models.
The Swiss AI Initiative is a national research collaboration led by EPFL and ETH Zurich, training models on the Alps supercomputer at the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre in Lugano. Its Apertus family, released in September 2025, is open in the strictest sense, publishing weights, training data, and recipes alike, and covers more than 1,800 natively supported languages with Swiss and European data-protection and copyright requirements respected in the training pipeline.
