Mistral Large 4 is Mistral AI's largest and most capable model to date, a granular mixture-of-experts with about 1 trillion total and 49 billion active parameters. It is a hybrid instruct-and-reasoning model, trained from scratch, with a built-in vision encoder so documents, charts and photos go in alongside text. It targets agentic and analytical work: tool calling, structured output, repository-scale code understanding, and long-document tasks over long contexts. Mistral highlights cybersecurity analysis, scientific computing, and financial and legal document processing as strengths. The model is multilingual across 160+ languages, including every official EU language. It launched as a public preview, with open weights announced for release later in October 2026.
