SDXL Turbo is a distilled version of SDXL 1.0 optimized for real-time image synthesis. Built with Adversarial Diffusion Distillation (ADD), it generates 512x512 images from text prompts in just 1 to 4 sampling steps, beating a 50-step configuration of standard SDXL with only 4 steps. The model runs without guidance scaling or negative prompts and functions as both a text-to-image and image-to-image model, making it suited to real-time applications, artistic workflows, and interactive generative use cases. Its adversarial training combines single-step efficiency with diffusion-based quality while avoiding the artifacts often seen in other distillation methods. SDXL Turbo works best for general imagery and has known limitations with legible text rendering and the generation of faces and people. It is open-weight and available for both non-commercial and commercial use through Stability AI's licensing program.
