Inception

Inception is a Palo Alto research company founded in 2024 by Stefano Ermon, Aditya Grover and Volodymyr Kuleshov, building language models that generate text by diffusion rather than one token at a time. Its Mercury line refines whole blocks of tokens in parallel, which the lab positions as a way to hold quality while cutting latency and cost, with Mercury 2 arriving in February 2026.
